Conceived as a pinwheel shape in plan, the low lying structure was thought of as a “garden house.” Landscape flows into the spaces between the different volumes and massive stone walls bisect the structure and disappear into the vegetation. A home and art gallery, the clients wanted the spaces to feel comfortable, inviting, and luxurious yet be conducive to hanging their extensive collection of minimalist contemporary art. A large gallery at the Entry showcases a huge sculpture by Antony Gormley. Steps leading to a lower level gallery are designed around a tall vertical grid sculpture by Sol Lewitt that appears to flow down the space.
